Glossary terms
Expansion
Project that adds space to your existing home - like an extra bedroom, a garage or a complete extension.
Turnkey
Service where the contractor takes care of everything: planning, work, finishing. You receive your finished 100 % project, headache-free.
Quotation / Tender
Written cost estimate for your project. At Cartago, it's free, fast and transparent.
General contractor
Company or individual responsible for coordinating all aspects of a construction or renovation project.
Finish
The final details that give the final look: paint, mouldings, flooring, etc.
Insulation
Materials installed in walls, ceilings and floors to keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer.
RBQ license
Official authorization issued by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec. It proves that the contractor is qualified and complies with Quebec standards.
Building permits
Document issued by your municipality (e.g. Longueuil, Montreal) authorizing renovation or expansion work.
Floating floor
A type of flooring (often laminate or vinyl) that can be installed without glue or nails, making it practical and affordable.
Exterior cladding
Material that covers the exterior of your home (vinyl, wood, fiber cement, brick) to protect it and improve its appearance.
Subcontractor
Specialized worker (plumber, electrician, painter) hired by the general contractor to carry out a specific part of the project.
