LogisVert 2026: how much can you receive for a heat pump?

LogisVert and heat pumps: what Hydro-Québec is funding in 2026

In 2026, LogisVert can pay for a good portion of a new heat pump, up to $6,700 according to Hydro-Québec. But the amount is not calculated using the BTU written on the box. It is calculated using the certified heating capacity at –8 °C.

The rate also varies depending on the certification: $50 per 1,000 BTU/h for an ENERGY STAR model, $120 for a cold-climate ENERGY STAR model. And since June 15, 2026, some plex owners can obtain $220.

The Québec 2026-2027 budget added $158.9 million over four years to LogisVert, with the goal of reaching tenants through multi-unit building owners.

Whether you are in Montréal, Longueuil, Laval or elsewhere in Québec, eligibility depends on the device, the installation, the contractor and the rules in effect on the installation date.

Comparing heat pumps? Check the eligible model and its certified capacity before calculating your assistance.

What is LogisVert and why are heat pumps at the heart of the program?

LogisVert is Hydro-Québec's energy efficiency program for residential customers. It provides subsidies for measures such as heat pumps, roof insulation, heat pump dryers or solar panels.

The heat pump is the centerpiece, and for good reason. According to Hydro-Québec, heating can represent more than 50% of an electricity bill in Québec. A wall-mounted heat pump can be up to three times more efficient than electric baseboards for heating a home.

The program rewards real performance, not advertising. That is why everything revolves around one number: capacity at –8 °C.

Why is performance at –8 °C important?

The nominal capacity displayed in store is often the cooling capacity. It does not say much about what the device delivers when it is cold outside.

The certified capacity at –8 °C measures the heat that the heat pump actually provides in cold weather. It is this value that Hydro-Québec uses to calculate the subsidy.

The ENERGY STAR cold climate certification goes further: it targets devices designed to perform well during a Quebec winter. According to Hydro-Québec, some models operate efficiently down to –20 °C.

Wall-mounted, central or geothermal heat pump: what are the differences?

TypeFor whomGood to know
Wall-mounted (mini-split)Homes heated by baseboards, plexes, condosNo ducts required; one or more indoor units
CentralHouses with a duct networkDistributes heat throughout the house
GeothermalLarge properties with landHigh investment, wells required; separate assistance in LogisVert

A house heated by baseboards generally does not have ducts. The wall-mounted heat pump is often the simplest solution there, but each building must be evaluated.

How much does Hydro-Québec give for a heat pump in 2026?

According to the LogisVert participation guide (version 1.10, September 15, 2026), the assistance for an air-to-air heat pump is calculated as follows:

CertificationAssistance per 1,000 BTU/h at –8 °C
ENERGY STAR50 $
ENERGY STAR cold climate120 $
ENERGY STAR cold climate wall-mounted + Multi-unit bonus220 $

Hydro-Québec displays a maximum of $6,700 for the Heat pump measure. The amount is determined by the installation date, and the subsidy can never exceed 100% of the purchase and installation cost, before taxes.

Since November 26, 2025, a heat pump must be ENERGY STAR certified to be eligible.

How to roughly calculate your subsidy?

The formula is simple:

Certified capacity at –8 °C ÷ 1,000 × applicable rate = potential assistance

Illustrative example: a wall-mounted cold climate heat pump whose certified capacity at –8 °C is 15,000 BTU/h. 15,000 ÷ 1,000 × $120 = 1 800 $.

The same device, if it were only ENERGY STAR (without cold climate), would give 15 × $50 = $750. The difference is worth checking before buying.

This calculation is an example, not a guarantee. The LogisVert portal also offers a tool to estimate the assistance before purchase.

Example: why the number of BTU on the box is not enough

A device sold as «18,000 BTU» may have a lower heating capacity at –8 °C. If it is, for example, 14,000 BTU/h, the cold climate assistance will be $1,680, not $2,160.

The right value is found in the device's certification sheet, linked to its AHRI or ENERGY STAR number. It is this number that must appear on your invoice.

Is the maximum amount of $6,700 guaranteed?

No. To reach this ceiling, a high-capacity system is required, eligible and cold climate certified.

For a typical house or dwelling, the actual assistance is often well below. It depends on the model, its certified capacity and the actual cost of the work, not the purchase price.

The LogisVert 2026 bonus for multi-unit buildings

Since June 15, 2026, Hydro-Québec has added a bonus of 100 $ per 1,000 BTU/h at –8 °C for certain multi-unit buildings. The assistance thus goes from 120 $ to 220 $ per 1,000 BTU/h, or approximately 83 % more.

This bonus comes from the Government of Québec's 2030 Plan for a Green Economy. It targets a specific objective: that tenants also benefit from heat pumps, not just owner-occupants.

For a plex owner, this changes the profitability calculation. One heat pump per unit becomes much more affordable, especially in older buildings heated by baseboards.

Note: the subsidy cannot be included in the calculation of a rent increase, according to the rules of the Administrative Housing Tribunal.

Who can benefit from the 220 $ bonus?

According to the participation guide, the building must meet all of these conditions:

  • multiplex or residential building (condos are not eligible);
  • at least 2 units;
  • built in 1995 or earlier;
  • located in an energy poverty zone designated by Hydro-Québec, confirmed by postal code;
  • building value per unit below the median of the administrative region;
  • primary heating by electricity;
  • one meter per unit, and each tenant pays for their own electricity.

The device must be a cold-climate ENERGY STAR wall-mounted heat pump. Hydro-Québec offers an online verification tool with the postal code, the number of units and the building value listed on the assessment roll.

Example for a Montreal plex

Illustrative example: a triplex in Rosemont built in 1925, eligible for the bonus. The owner installs a cold-climate wall-mounted heat pump in each unit, each with a certified capacity of 18,000 BTU/h at –8 °C.

  • Per unit: 18 × 220 $ = 3 960 $
  • For the three units: 3 × 3,960 $ = 11 880 $

This calculation assumes that each unit meets the criteria and that the assistance does not exceed the actual cost of the work before taxes. Since rental income is property income, Hydro-Québec issues a RL-27 slip for this type of subsidy.

Own a duplex, triplex or small building? Have your project evaluated before choosing the devices.

And what if you are eligible for a free heat pump?

On June 29, 2026, Québec, Ottawa and Hydro-Québec announced more than 243 M$ to offer a free, turnkey heat pump to approximately 20,000 low-income households.

This is not the same as the standard LogisVert. This component goes through the Éconologis program, with income thresholds, an eligibility visit and installation by a company authorized by Hydro-Québec.

Is the free program still open in 2026?

No, not for now. After nearly 30,000 applications received in about one month, registrations for the 2026-2027 season are closed. Hydro-Québec is processing applications already received.

No resumption date has been announced. The standard LogisVert, however, remains open for owners who finance their own heat pump.

Beware of scams: Hydro-Québec never makes solicitation calls or door-to-door visits for LogisVert.

What conditions must be met to receive the assistance?

For the Heat Pump measure, the 2026 guide requires in particular:

  • New device, ENERGY STAR certified, and listed on the list of eligible heat pumps.
  • Outdoor unit of at least 12,000 BTU/h of nominal cooling capacity.
  • Purchase in Québec, in store or online from a retailer with an address in Québec.
  • Dwelling heated primarily by electricity.
  • Installation by a company registered with the Registraire des entreprises, holding the appropriate RBQ licences and a member of its trade corporation.
  • Application within 9 months following installation, on the LogisVert portal.

Processing takes 10 to 12 weeks once the file is complete. Hydro-Québec may also visit the home to verify the work within six months of the application.

As for documents, proof of ownership (tax bill or deed of sale), a paid and detailed invoice, and a clear photo of the outdoor unit's nameplate are required. The invoice must include the installation date, the company's RBQ licence number, the GST/QST numbers and the AHRI or ENERGY STAR number.

Verify the model before signing

Before signing a quote, make these three verifications:

  1. The exact model (indoor AND outdoor unit) appears in Hydro-Québec's search tool.
  2. You know its certified capacity at –8 °C.
  3. You know whether it is ENERGY STAR or ENERGY STAR cold climate.

Never rely solely on a salesperson's verbal estimate. The final amount depends on the official specification sheet, not on the pitch.

Why an RBQ contractor is important

Hydro-Québec requires specific licence sub-categories to install a heat pump, in ventilation or forced-air heating AND in refrigeration. The electrical connection must be done by a licensed electrical contractor.

For a turnkey service, the contractor must hold all of these licences, or a general contractor licence (1.2 or 1.3) that allows them to subcontract to qualified specialists. Verify the licence in the RBQ registry.

Cartago Construction holds an RBQ licence and is fully insured. For the heat pump itself, we work with subcontractors who hold the required licences.

Want to avoid unpleasant surprises? Plan your work with an RBQ contractor.

LogisVert and Rénoclimat: can the grants be combined?

Yes, but not for the same thing. LogisVert (Hydro-Québec) and Rénoclimat (Government of Québec) fund different measures.

The basic rule of the LogisVert guide: if you receive a grant, you cannot apply for another one, from Hydro-Québec or a government body, for the same equipment or the same work.

And the Multilogements bonus cannot be combined with either the Multiple Measures bonus (5 %) or any other offer from Hydro-Québec or a government body. So check the rules of each program before committing.

Can the heat pump and other renovations be financed?

Yes, if each measure goes through the right program. The heat pump falls under LogisVert. Wall insulation, foundation insulation or window replacement fall under Rénoclimat.

For roof insulation, both programs have a measure, but you can only be paid once for the same work. And a kitchen or bathroom renovation is not eligible under either.

LogisVert and renovation: how to use your budget wisely?

A grant reduces the cost of an eligible appliance. It does not create a renovation budget.

However, a heat pump rarely comes alone in a project. The right sequence often looks like this: heating system, then electrical and mechanical work, then interior finishing, then exterior work.

Planning in this order avoids undoing what was just finished.

Can a heat pump trigger other work?

Often, yes. An installation may require:

  • drilling through walls for refrigerant lines;
  • a new electrical circuit at the panel;
  • drywall, paint or trim touch-ups;
  • a base, wall bracket or shelter for the outdoor unit, protected from snow falling from the roof;
  • adjustments to the plans of an already planned renovation.

Why coordinate the heat pump with an interior renovation?

If you plan to redo a living room or open a wall, it is better to run the lines before finishing. Otherwise, you drill through a freshly painted wall and start over.

In a interior renovation, the location of the units, the line routing and the electrical circuit can be planned from the design stage. The trades follow each other in the right order and the finished surfaces are protected.

Is your heat pump installation part of a larger renovation? Coordinate the work from the project design stage.

LogisVert 2026: the mistakes that can cost you the grant

«All heat pumps qualify for a grant.»

False. The model must be new, ENERGY STAR certified and listed on Hydro-Québec's list. Replacing a single unit or a broken appliance is not eligible.

«The BTU rating displayed by the manufacturer is enough.»

False. Only the certified capacity at –8 °C counts in the calculation.

«I can buy the appliance elsewhere and have it installed here.»

False. The appliance must be purchased in Québec, in store or online from a retailer with a Québec address.

«A free heat pump is still available to all low-income households.»

False. The 2026-2027 registrations are closed, and no reopening has been announced.

«The grant necessarily reimburses a large part of the price.»

False. The assistance depends on the rate and the certified capacity, not on the price paid. A complex installation can cost much more than the assistance received.

Another common mistake: installing a heat pump in a home heated mainly with oil or gas. The Heat Pump measure targets homes whose main heating is electric.

Heat pump in Québec: why the cold climate changes the decision

A Québec winter means weeks below –10 °C and even colder nights. A heat pump that loses a large part of its capacity at these temperatures leaves the baseboards to do the work, and the bill does not drop as much as expected.

That is why low-temperature capacity and cold climate certification matter as much as price. A cold climate model also receives more than double the assistance.

Choosing an appliance only because the grant is higher is not a good strategy either. The right capacity depends on the area, the insulation and the layout of the rooms.

Montréal, Longueuil and Laval: which criteria to look at?

The Greater Montréal housing stock is old, and many homes are still heated with electric baseboards.

  • Montréal: the plexes of Rosemont, Villeray or Hochelaga have adjoining rooms. A single wall unit does not always heat the back bedrooms well.

How much does Hydro-Québec give for a heat pump in 2026?
